The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) held a meeting on October 27 in Hanoi under the chair of Minister General To Lam to review the task performance of the Public Security Forces in October 2021.

At the event, Lieutenant General To An Xo, Chief of the MPS Office, delivered a report summarizing results of the task performance of the Public Security Forces in October and key missions for them in November.

The report read, under the sound leadership of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the MPS, the Public Security Forces firmly safeguarded national security, maintained social order and safety, and contributed to controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notably, the police forces actively grasped and maintained public order and security situations in Ho Chi Minh City and Southern provinces in the post-lockdown period while paying attention to controlling organized crimes related to "black credit", illegal debt collection, robbery, gambling, contributing to building a safe society.

In the month, police forces nationwide investigated 2,738 criminal cases related to public order and arrested 5,331 persons involved. They also destroyed 80 criminal gangs, solved 377 gambling cases and arrested 1,935 people involved.

Meanwhile, they handled thousands of cases violating environmental protection laws. Police forces also eliminated transnational drug trafficking rings, arrested 2,755 persons involved in drug trafficking, and seized 24.53 kg of heroin, more than 176 kg and 98,690 pills of synthetic drugs and 23 kg of marijuana.

During the month, police forces, particularly the traffic police, ensured traffic safety and supported people returning to their home villages from Ho Chi Minh City and other pandemic-hit in the South.

Regarding traffic order and safety, the traffic police force fined more than VND 186 billion and seized 24,987 vehicles in 175,599 cases of traffic law violation.

Generally, public security agencies and units at all levels have deployed technological applications based on the National Database on Population to enhance their State governance over social order and safety.

Addressing the event, on behalf of the MPS leadership, Minister To Lam praised the Public Security Forces for their fulfillment of the tasks in October.

Regarding the  key missions in the coming time, Minister To Lam asked the Public Security Forces to safeguard key projects as well as important political and cultural events of the country, activities of Party and State leaders and international delegations.

Minister To Lam also requested the police forces at all levels to grasp and precisely forecast security-related situations so as to advise the Party and the Government on appropriate guidelines and policies to firmly protect national security, ensure social safety, cyber-security and economic security. They were also asked to coordinate with other functional forces to ensure social welfare and contribute to socio-economic recovery and development.

Under-ministerial agencies and provincial-level police departments should pay due attention to effectively implementing the MPS's plan on enhancing crime prevention and control during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in order to achieve the goal of reducing crimes by 5% from 2020, Minister Lam asked.

In terms of COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control, Minister To Lam requested the Public Security Forces to strictly take preventive measures against the disease while thoroughly following the directions of the Government on safely adapting to as well as flexibly and effectively controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.
