On the afternoon of August 4, Nhat, aged 4, accompanied his parents to Thien Truong Stadium to watch the football match. The stadium was crowded in the afternoon.

Second Lieutenant Tran Quang Dat of the Nam Dinh Fire Police Office, Second Lieutenant Bui Manh Cuong and Major Sergeant Phan Quoc Viet from the Nam Dinh Drug Police Office who were on duty nearby ran to the little boy and gave him first aid. But the boy was still unconscious. The policemen asked Captain Tran Duc Giang and Sergeant Tran Thanh Hieu from the Nam Dinh Mobile Police Office to take the boy to medical section in the stadium.

While holding the sick boy to doctors, Captain Giang recognized the boy convulsing continuously. He decided to put his fingers in between the boys teeth preventing him from biting his tongue. The case was recorded by reporters who were working at the stadium.
