Public security athletes honored for outstanding achievements at 30th SEA Games

PSNews - The Ministry of Public Security on December 16 held a ceremony to praise coaches and athletes of the People's Public Security Forces, who had participated in and achieved excellent results in the 30thSEA Games.

Present at the meeting were also Senior Lieutenant General Bui Van Nam, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security; Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Deputy Minister of Public Security; Mr. Tran Duc Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Physical Training and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Head of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the 30th SEA Games.

The Southeast Asia Games (SEA Games) is a major biennial regional multi-sport event with the participation of all regional countries. The Vietnam’s participating delegation at the 30th edition included 856 members, of whom one coach and seven athletes are from the People's Public Security Forces. The seven athletes were competing in seven categories of three sport events, namely Karate, fencing and Judo.

The public security athletes won two gold medals, two silver medals, three bronze medals, making an important contribution to the overall achievement of Vietnam’s participating delegation.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security, Minister To Lam recognized and praised the athletes, coaches and sporting staff who had overcome difficulties and hardships, and made great efforts to bring honor and pride for the nation and the Public Security Forces.

The Minister also thanked leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the General Department of Physical Training and Sports and other involved units for their coordination and assistance for the public security sporting sector over the past time. The Minister wished to receive further coordination from them in the future.

The Minister urged all public security agencies and units to regularly do physical exercise and play sports in support of public security professional skills, focus on training the sports of their strong points so as to participate in national and international competitions as well as promote sport movements in the public security forces.

 Minister To Lam also encouraged public security agencies and units to expand international cooperation in sports as well as work out mechanisms and policies to attract civilian athletes with high international records to the forces while providing good conditions for public security athletes, coaches and sport employees.
