Public Security Forces play key role in tackling Typhoon No. 10

Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Dang Hong Duc chaired an online meeting with public security units and agencies on September 30 in Hanoi to review the efforts to brace for Typhoon No. 10 (Bualoi) beforehand and relieve its aftermath.

According to initial statistics, the typhoon and subsequent floods have caused 19 dead, 13 missing and 92 injured. More than 112,000 houses were damaged, while 6.4 kilometers of river and coastal embankments were destroyed, causing economic losses of several trillion VND.

In this circumstance, the Public Security Central Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) leadership closely followed the directions of the Permanent Member of the Secretariat, the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense to instruct all public security units and agencies to proactively support people before, during and after the storm.

Accordingly, the entire Public Security Forces played a pioneering role in disaster response and relief.

Local-level police units proactively advised local authorities to evacuate thousands of residents from high-risk areas to safe shelters, maintained the supply of essential goods, security, order and traffic safety, sent police officers to guard critical sites to prevent people and vehicles from approaching, and urgently conducted search, rescue and relief operations.

At the meeting, leaders of public security units and agencies reported on the situation in their localities and proposed solutions to current issues.

On behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and MPS leadership, Deputy Minister Dang Hong Duc commended the forces for their prompt and effective support and assistance for people before, during and after Typhoon No. 10.

He requested public security units and agencies at all levels to closely monitor weather developments, promptly advise local authorities to relocate local people from locations prone to landslide or flood, support the transportation of food and essential supplies to gulfed areas, ensure security and order and mobilize their maximum efforts as well as communities to assist affected people.
