Detention facilities should take drastic measures to prevent COVID-19

PSNews - Deputy Minister of Public Security Major General Le Quoc Hung on June 28 attended separate meetings to review task performances of the Police Department for Management of Prisons, Correctional Centers, and Juvenile Reformatories and the Police Department for Management of Custody, Temporary Detention and Community-based Corrections.

* At the first meeting with the Police Department for Management of Prisons, Correctional Centers, and Juvenile Reformatories, the Deputy Minister listened to reports delivered by leaders of the department.

According to reports, all prisons, correctional centers, and juvenile reformatories nationwide have strictly managed inmates while protecting both staff and inmates from COVID-19 infection. They have also correctly implemented policies for inmates.

Speaking at the meetings, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung emphasized that the COVID-19 pandemic remains complicated in the coming time, so the department and its sub-units should take resolute approaches to prevent COVID-19 from entering detention facilities while regularly practicing plans on possible pandemic breakouts among their staff and inmates.

The department should prepare for the 2021 amnesty drive while developing close relations with local authorities, departments, sectors, mass organizations, and people in ensuring security and safety for detention facilities.

On behalf of the Standing Board of the Public Security Central Party Committee, Deputy Minister Hung presents Certificates of Merit and “Emulation Soldier” title to leaders of Police Department for Management of Prisons, Correctional Centers, and Juvenile Reformatories for their excellent achievements.

Reports at the event read that, over the past six months, the department and its sub-units have completed all their assigned tasks. 

Particularly, the quality and effectiveness of the management of custody and community-based corrections has been improved while temporary detention camps have been safe and secure, contributing to investigation, prosecution, trial, and judgment execution of criminal cases. 

The department has also strictly managed physical evidence and exhibits in accordance with the laws as well as guided local police forces to encourage and support the sentenced persons who seriously observe and follow the rules of community-based corrections.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung recognized the achievements that the Police Department has obtained over the past time.

He noted that, in the face of the complex COVID-19 pandemic, the department should implement drastic measures to prevent spread of the disease in the custody facilities. He also requested the department to revise and complete legal documents related to the management of custody and community-based corrections, the storage of exhibits, and legal assistance.

At the event, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung presented Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Public Security and the title “Emulation Soldier” to excellent officers of the department.
