Public Security Newspaper marks its first issue

The August Revolution Victory on August 19, 1945, led to the birth of the revolutionary administration as well as the foundation of the People’s Police Force (the predecessor of the current People’s Public Security Forces).

President Ho Chi Minh on February 21, 1946 signed a mandate to officially form the Police Department of Vietnam (the forerunner of the current Ministry of Public Security).

The work of ensuring political security, social order and safety required the police force at that time to have an official mouthpiece.

On November 1, 1946, the “New Police Newspaper”, the forerunner of the current Public Security (CAND) Newspaper, officially released its first issue, and it was widely sold across the country. The newspaper became the information representative of the Vietnamese police force, and operated under the direction of the Vietnamese Police Department.

Formed during a difficult historical period of the country, the newspaper has changed its names various times. It has now been entitled the “CAND Newspaper” serving as the mouthpiece of the Central Public Security Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security.

When he was alive, President Ho Chi Minh paid much attention to the newspaper. From 1962 to May, 1969, President Ho Chi Minh usually read the newspaper and sometimes wrote comments on articles.

Over the past 73 years, the newspaper has always accomplished its assigned missions, promptly and precisely popularizing Party's guidelines, the State's policies and laws to people from all walks of life, vividly reflecting the work of protecting national security and maintaining social order and safety, and force building of the Public Security Forces.

The newspaper also covers domestic and foreign issues as well as internal and external activities of leaders of the Party, State and Ministry of Public Security. It closely follows and successfully features hot domestic issues as well as economic, cultural and social events that are concerned by its readers and the whole society.

The CAND Newspaper also takes the lead in defending the Party's ideological viewpoint, struggling against wrong views and allegations of hostile forces and political opportunists while actively and effectively informing the work of Party building, and prevention and combat of corruption.

Alongside its political mission, the CAND Newspaper actively participates in social activities and calls on organizations, businesses and individuals to support disadvantaged people.

From a one-page newspaper, the CAND Newspaper now has a number of publications, including The Cong An Nhan dan (People’s Public Security) Daily; two fortnight-issue newspapers named Van nghe Cong an (Public Security Literature and Arts) and Canh sat toan cau (Global Police); two-issue weekly An ninh the gioi (World Security); and CAND Online in 3 languages: Vietnamese, English and Chinese.
