Colonel Le Van Phuong, chief of the province’s border guards, said on February 15 that the 24-year-old Ha Di Luon Kham Keson (residing in Tha Sy Da hamlet, Se Phang Phay district, Kham Muon province of Laos) was seized on February 14 at Khua Khau Cac hamlet, Saybuly district, Savannakhet province, about 350 km from the Lao Bao International Border Gate in Quang Tri, while he was attempting to transport the drugs.

The man, together with the meth pills, a mobile phone, and other relevant objects found at the site, were handed over to Savannakhet’s security forces.

The two sides are continuing efforts to search for other smugglers in the drug ring.

In September 2018, Quang Tri’s border guards and Lao forces seized a total of 314,000 meth pills.

Phuong said the recent arrests of several drug smugglers demonstrate the efforts and close collaboration between Quang Tri province and Laos’ authorised agencies.
