PSNews – The traffic police force of Quang Tri was deployed to key routes and localities to support the local veterinary force functional units in checking transport vehicles to prevent the spread of African swine fever.

In addition to the deployment of 2 officers to each checkpoint on the National Highway, the Quang Tri Provincial Traffic Police Division also conducts patrols and checks on provincial roads, in Vinh Linh and Hai Lang districts, bordering on Le Thuy district of Quang Binh and Phong Dien district of Thua Thien-Hue, where African swine fever has recently broken out.

Senior Colonel Le Phuong Nam, Vice Director of the Quang Tri Provincial Police, said that as functional forces have enhanced patrols and checks, transporters have chosen to transport pigs at night, generating some more difficulties to the functional forces, including the traffic police.

On March 20, the Traffic Police team at the inspection point in Hai Truong commune, Hai Lang District, stopped and checked 7 trucks transporting pigs from Northern provinces southward. Although the functional forces did not detect the virus, they still sprayed all the pigs before allowing the vehicles to move on.

In recent days, joint working teams of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine Department, the Market Management Department, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Tri have tightened inspection work.

Functional forces also closely follow developments of the epidemic in the neighboring localities, promote dissemination of information about African swine fever, and intensify preventive measures, contributing to maintaining local pig breeding and consumption of pork, avoiding over-anxiety in the community, which may harm the livestock industry.

It is reported that Quang Tri is home to over 242,000 pigs, 30 pig farms but only 2 of them were certified by VietGap.
