The An Giang Provincial People’s Committee held a meeting to evaluate the implementation of the project to build the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region into a model unit of security, order and urban civilization, on the morning of May 8 in Phu Quoc.

Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Pham The Tung attended and delivered a keynote speech at the meeting.

Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Mung, Head of the Steering Committee for the Project, chaired the meeting.

Presenting a general report at the meeting, Director of the An Giang Provincial Police Department Major General Nguyen Van Han stated that, after eight months of the implementation, the project had created strong consensus and unity among officials, Party members and local residents in the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region.

Provincial departments and sectors had made considerable efforts in implementing the project in accordance with the implementation roadmap and the set criteria.

To date, 64 out of 78 criteria and key tasks of the project have been completed, while initial results of several ongoing tasks have seen as positive.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung acknowledged the achievements made by An Giang province in implementing the project to build the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region into a model unit for security, order and urban civilization.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that key items of the project, particularly for the completion of 26 security and order criteria and 52 urban civilization criteria, should be implemented urgently and synchronously, catching up with the implementation of other projects for APEC 2027.

Regarding major tasks in the coming period, Deputy Minister Pham The Tung requested An Giang province to accelerate all projects for APEC 2027.

He also requested the An Giang Provincial Police Department to ensure security and order in the special administrative region, as well as to maintain a police force of the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region good in terms of both quantity and quality to meet both immediate and long-term task requirements.

The Deputy Minister expressed confidence that, with the strong political determination and efficient direction of the provincial leadership as well as close coordination among local units, the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region would complete all criteria for a model unit for security, order and urban civilization on schedule.

Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Mung requested provincial departments and sectors to effectively implement the proposed groups of solutions for the building of the Phu Quoc Special Administrative Region as an exemplary unit for security, order and urban civilization.

He also called on relevant agencies to accelerate the implementation of delayed criteria with the highest sense of responsibility and determination to ensure the project is completed on schedule.
