Addressing the event, Major General Truong Giang Long stressed: “As part of the Vietnam revolutionary press, the public security press has made much great progress in the past years.

The public security press is not only an important information channel for leadership but also serves as a bridge connecting the public security forces and people in the social order and national security protection cause.

Over the past years, political knowledge and working skill training courses for cadres of the public security press have been organized and conducted in a synchronous manner, and have obtained first positive results.

However, to better improve the quality and capacity of public security press personnel and to meet task requirements in the current situation, the Political Academy of Public Security drew up a draft programme on "Training political knowledge and specialized skills for managers, editors, reporters of public security press agencies", with the instruction of top experts.

At the scientific workshop, participants discussed issues relating to theory and practice of journalism and journalism management in the public security press sector. In addition, they pointed the necessity to identify specific characteristics of groups of officers, reporters and editors, so as to work out appropriate programmes.

Speaking at the seminar, Major General Pham Van Mien, Editor in Chief of the Public Security Newspaper said: "We should train public security reporters to well write law-related issues but absolutely keep secrets and knowhow of the public security forces."

He also added that, this is key to public security reporters, editors and mangers. Therefore, it must be very careful when drafting training programmes or training courses.  Additionally, trainees should be active in doing practical activities under the instruction of lecturers.

Major General Tran Vi Dan, Editor in Chief of the Public Security Magazine affirmed that in the current digital age, attention should be also paid to technician teams of public security press agencies, avoiding backwardness. Moreover, public security magazine agencies are specialized units. Thus, cadres who work there should be sensitive with emerging issues, supporting research activities.

Ass.Prof. Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoa, Director of the Political Theory Office under the Central Commission for Information and Communications pointed out: “The Political Academy of Public Security should focus on improving skills to handle some typical press situations, in line with the current modern press environment for trainees.”
