The event took place when relations between Vietnam and Laos in general and the two countries’ provinces continue enjoying positive outcomes in all areas of cooperation.
Particularly, the meeting was held on the occasion that both countries are organizing many activities in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Treaty, 55 years since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Laos, and the “Vietnam - Laos Friendship Year 2017”.
Since the previous annual meeting, the Provincial Police of Bolikahmsai, Xiengkhouan and Houaphanh and Nghe An Provincial Police and Border Guard forces have closely coordinated in implementing the contents of the signed Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries, making important contributions to maintaining political security and social order and safety in each country.
The involved parties have well coordinated, exchanged information, grasped the situations related to security and order, well conducted information dissemination and education on laws for people along the border areas. They especially focused on the fight against human trafficking, illegal exploitation and transportation of forest products, wanted criminals, drug-related crimes, and they have achieved many fruitful results in their cooperation.

Additionally, the Nghe An provincial Police has organized various professional training courses for key police officers of Bolikahmsai and Xiengkhouan provinces as well as sent various working delegations to work with leaders of the Lao Police, welcomed and worked with delegations of the Lao Police visiting Nghe An.
On the basis of the special solidarity, friendship and all-rounded cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, the Police Departments of Nghe An, Bolikahmsai, Xiengkhouan and Huouphang agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in ensuring security and order in 2017.
