Relatives of one of the victim said a group of young men on Hon Tam island, Vinh Nguyen ward, Nha Trang city, made wine from industrial alcohol of unknown origin.
7 of them had vomiting, abdominal pain, and lethargy so they were taken ashore to Tam Tri General Hospital in Nha Trang. Doctors at the hospital diagnosed that the patients were all poisoned by alcohol and offered emergency aid. But two of them were in critical health condition with coma and uncontrolled low blood pressure so they were immediately taken to the General Hospital of Khanh Hoa.
Doctor Nguyen Luong Ky, Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning at Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, said the victims drank methanol, a kind of industrial alcohol, which is often used for cleaning and chemical purposes, and unfit for human consumption. A person will be seriously poisoned if consuming a small amount of the industrial alcohol.
