Strengthening prevention and combat against crime during Tet Holiday

PSNews-The General Department of Police held a conference on strengthening the prevention and combat against crime, violation of regulations on weapons, explosives and support tools and fireworks, smuggling, commercial fraud, and offence of food safety during the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2017.

According to a report at the conference, issues concerning weapons, explosives and support tools remain complex in 2016. Relevant forces detected a number of cases of trafficking, transporting, stockpiling illegal weapons or explosives in large quantities.

Particularly, police units discovered 579 cases relating to illegally storing, transporting, manufacturing weapons, and arrested 926 suspects, which killed 32 people and injured 208 others.

Regarding the issue of fireworks, relevant forces cracked down on 847 cases, arresting 993 suspects and seizing over 21,000 kg of fireworks of different types.

In terms of prevention and combat against smuggling and trade fraud, relevant forces nationwide have discovered and tackled 172,000 cases of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit, collecting VND 13 trillion to the State budget.

Speaking at the conference, Lieutenant General Phan Van Vinh, Director of the General Department of Police noted that the situation of crime and social order and safety tends to be on the rise and more critical as Tet is coming. Issues relating to weapons and explosives, support tools and fireworks; smuggling and commercial fraud; food safety become more complex during Tet, causing anxiety, insecurity for people.

Lieutenant General Vinh urges police units at all levels to immediately take drastic measures to ensure social order and security before, during and after the Tet 2017 as well as draw up plans to promptly respond to and handle any unexpected situation, which may pose extensive risks to the society.
