Students of Public Security actively participate in summer voluntary activities

PSNews-Every year, when summer comes, thousands of students of public security and police universities in the southern region volunteer to go to rural and far-flung areas to help local people.

With the slogan of “3 Withs” (Eating, Staying and Working with the people), in recent years, students of various public security universities and colleges have built many projects of social welfare and gratitude paying activities.

“Since I started my first academic year in the University, I have participated in various blood donation drives or “green summer” campaigns in my home province of Tien Giang”, said Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh, a sophomore of the University of  People’s Police (PPU).

“FromJuly 1 to 22, over 850 students of the PPU will participate in various practical voluntary activities in communes, towns of Tien Giang and Ben Tre,” shared Major Huynh Nam Hai, Secretary of the PPU’s Youth Chapter.

“The activities are aimed to help students understand the thoughts, aspirations and real lives of local people. We also regularly brief the voluntary students on economic, cultural, social situations and social order and security. At the same time, they have the chance to participate in the working and production activities to help local people; participate in social and gratitude activities, rescue missions during natural disasters such as floods and storms as well as participation in building new rural areas and projects of local youth.

However, we also require that all the activities integrate political and ethical education with students’ life skills and practices,,” Hai said.

Lieutenant Tran Hai Du, Secretary of the Youth Union Chapter of the University of the People’s Security (PSU), said that the Socio-Political Practical Activity - Green Volunteer Campaign was organized for the first time by the University in the school year of 1998-1999 in Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City, then the campaign was expanded to remote areas, former revolutionary bases and western provinces such as Long An, Ben Tre, Tien Giang.

Hai Du said over the past several years, education managers, teachers and students had been organize to home stay with more than 1,200 households. Security students have contributed more than 13,000 working days, collecting garbage, clearing flows of channels, building rural roads, erecting new electric pylons, repairing rural power lines,installing light systems, and upgrading and repairing local cultural houses and historical sites.

Alongside local youths, the students of the campaign conducted more than 3,500 patrols to ensure security, order and traffic safety in the areas. They also coordinated with the local police to organize social evil prevention programs or participate in activities to disseminate the Traffic Law,rules of traffic safety and traffic culture.

The students donated VND 800 million to build 30 houses for the poor. As part of the volunteer activities, the students visited and presented gifts to policy families, Vietnamese Heroic Mother, donated more than 2,000 gifts to poor families and poor students from proceeds of students’ music performances and other forms of donation.

From June 5 to 25, the 2017 Green Summer Volunteer Campaign will be organized in 7 out of 18 communes and towns in Cao Lanh district, with the participation of 365 students.

In addition to the University of the People's Police and People’s Security, other schools and colleges under the MPS also planned to organize 2017 summer volunteer campaigns in various forms, in order to ensure social order and security in the area and promote social and charity activities.
