Task Force 108 shows efficiency in ensuring security in Phu Quoc

Officially launched on January 2023 by the Directorate of the Kien Giang Provincial Police Department, Task Force Squad 108 has actively coordinated with relevant forces to patrol and ensure traffic order, safety and prevent crimes in the island city of Phu Quoc.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Han, Director of the Kien Giang Provincial Police Department, said the Task Force Squad 108 is the local police’s “iron fist” in suppressing criminal gangs, contributing to settling issues related to security and order, traffic order and safety in key areas in general and in Phu Quoc in particular.

Colonel Truong Sa My, Vice Head of the Criminal Police Division under the Kien Giang Provincial Police Department, Chief of Task Force Squad 108, said criminals often take advantage of security loopholes in the island city to form gangs and violate the laws. Local criminal gangs illegally occupy forest land and land for projects, and fight with each other for operational areas. Some criminal gangs are under the cover of businesses and enterprises to run “black credit” violating the laws and causing security issues in the area.

During patrols, Task Force Squad108 recently discovered 74  people drug-positive, arrested 7 people in 5 drug-related cases, dismisssed illegal gatherings with signs of violence, and handled 32 large and small-scaled casinos.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Han said, the more developed the island city of Phu Quoc is, the more crime grows. The Provincial Police Department has advised the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to direct local agencies and sectors to coordinate with the police force in solving shortcomings in the State management of land and construction, and resolutely handle cases related to security and order, contributing to improving the security situation and preventing crime and law violations in the locality.
