"Ten years – For Love of Hanoi" exhibition opens

A photo exhibition, entitled ‘Ten years – For the Love of Hanoi’ will open on the evening of August 11 at the Ho Guom cultural information centre, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Bui Xuan Phai Award - For Love of Hanoi Awards.

Around 50 photos at the exhibition are works or compilations of five photographers, who have been nominated for, or presented with, the Bui Xuan Phai Award - For Love of Hanoi Awards over the past ten years.

They are Le Vuong, Quang Phung, Nguyen Huu Bao, Dutch photographer Loes Herrink and ethnographer Dinh Trong Hieu. Among them, ethnographer Dinh Trong Hieu, who has joined with French historian Emmanuel Poisson, to produce the photo exhibition ‘Hanoi colour 1914 – 1917’.

The annual awards, co-organised by the The Thao &Van Hoa (Sports and Culture) newspaper and the Bui Xuan Phai Fund, was named after painter Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988), who had a great impact on modern Vietnamese fine arts.

So far, the awards have honored eight individuals in the Grand Prize category, along with nearly 30 works, ideas and jobs and over 50 other nominations in any field that contributes to the development of Hanoi.

The exhibition is expected to provoke memories and the beautiful affection that people hold for Hanoi.

In addition, a series of events will be organised to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the awards, including ‘Bui Xuan Phai - For the Love of Hanoi’ 2017 awards ceremony, as well as a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the awards on July 18; a show entitled "Love Hanoi Street" at 8pm on August 26, at Hanoi's Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labour Cultural Palace, with the participation of well-known artists such as Thanh Lam, Tung Duong, Hong Nhung, My Linh, Tan Minh, saxophonist Hong Kien, and Anh Em (Brothers) band.
