Text message support raises 126 billion VND for COVID-19 prevention, control

PSNews - More than 2.1 million text messages had been sent to raise funds for COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control in Vietnam as of 11AM on Sunday, the Ministry of Information and Communications has said.
Supporters can donate by texting “CV n” to 1407, of which “n” is the multiple of VND 20,000, which is the value of each message.

Acccording to the Ministry of Information and Communications, the messages pledged more than 126 billion VND (or 5.4 million US dollar) to the fight against COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam.

The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said the money would be used to buy medical equipment and protective tools for doctors, police and soldiers in close contact with patients. The fund will also be used for people in quarantine centres.

The text message campaign to call for public support for the country’s fight against COVID-19 was also launched by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Standing Board, the Health Ministry, and the Vietnam Red Cross Society on March 18.

Supporters can donate by texting “CV n” to 1407, of which “n” is the multiple of VND 20,000, which is the value of each message. It was estimated that over 2.4 billion VND was raised immediately after the launch of the campaign.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung called on everyone to support the fight against COVID-19 with the strength of unity as it is said: "A small drop of water makes a mighty ocean". The donation campaign will last until June 18.
