The reinforcement of communal police force brings good results in Kon Tum

PSNew - General To Lam, Minister of Public Security on May 10 led a high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security to work with the Kon Tum Provincial Police Department on the reinforcement of communal police force.

The event saw the participation of Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Party Central Committee's member, Secretary of the Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Kon Tum Provincial People’s Council; Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Chairman of the Kon Tum Provincial People’s Committee; and leaders and representatives of units under the Ministry.

At the working session, Senior Colonel Nguyen Cong Van, Director of the Kon Tum Provincial Police Department briefed General To Lam and other delegates on strengthening the communal police force in Kon Tum.

According to Senior Colonel Nguyen Cong Van, the unit, since January 2019, has posted 522 professional police officers to all police posts of the 92 communes and townlets of the province to ensure local security and order, in line with the pilot project on regularizing the communal police force initiated by the Ministry of Public Security.

Among them, 82 officers were appointed as chiefs of communal police posts; 73 officers were appointed as deputy chiefs of communal police posts.

Since then, the presence of the commissioned police officers has made significant changes in the security and order situation in the province. The positive results have been recognized by the local authorities and the people.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Cong Van said that, besides the advantages and the good initial results, the project on the reinforcement of the communal police force in Kon Tum is still facing a number of difficulties, including shortages of offices, supporting tools and working facilities.

Senior Colonel Nguyen Cong Van also revealed that many of the semi-professional and non-commissioned police officers who have been working at commune-level police posts still want to serve after the reinforcement of communal police posts. However, some of them do not have sufficient professional expertise to work at commune police posts.

Addressing the event, on behalf of the Public Security Central Party Committee and the leadership of the Ministry of Public Security, General To Lam acknowledged and appreciated the good results of the task performance of the Kon Tum Provincial Police.

General To Lam urged the leaders, people and authorities of Kon Tum province to provide more favorable conditions for the provincial police to complete the project on the reinforcement of communal police force in the province, while drawing up policies for semi-professional and non-commissioned officers at communal police posts so they can join regular police officers in ensuring security and order at the grassroots level.

General To Lam asked the Kon Tum Provincial Police to assign commissioned police officers with professional skills and command of ethnic minorities’ languages, to the leadership of commune police posts in line with the roadmap and regulations set by the Ministry of Public Security.

Regarding the reinforcement of communal police force nationwide, Minister To Lam asked all relevant units of the Ministry of Public Security to actively advise the Ministry's leaders to speed up the work.

Minister To Lam also emphasized that the Public Security Central Party Committee and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security will continue creating the best conditions for the Kon Tum Provincial Police to complete the project on strengthening its communal police force.

The Ministry of Public Security always determines that the pilot project on reinforcing the communal police force in Kon Tum as a valuable experience, said Minister To Lam.
