All the eight new cases were quarantined as soon as they landed in Vietnam from Russia, Japan, and the UK, thus posing no risk to the community, the MoH said in its 18.00hrs update.

Notably, among the infected cases were a 31-year-old Russian woman, and her 1-year-old child who entered Vietnam from Russia on November 24. They were both relatives of a Russian expert who flew on the same flight.

The third foreign national contracting the virus was a 30-year-old Japanese expert, who landed in Vietnam from Japan on November 25.

All the new patients are receiving treatment at health facilities in Khanh Hoa province, Hanoi capital and Ho Chi Minh City after testing positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease.

As of 18.00hrs November 27, Vietnam has recorded a total of 1,339 coronavirus cases, including 691 locally transmitted cases and 648 imported cases.

As many as 1,170 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital. The death toll caused by COVID-19 and related illnesses remains at 35.
