According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, Director of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, over the last week, the unseasonal floods occurred in locality has caused a total loss of over 966 billion VND.
Roughly 20,834 hectares of local rice have been submerged. The local functional unit has instructed farmers to drain water in the rice fields quickly. It is important not to let the rice fields be soaked in water for many days to limit sprouting and disease-causing fungi.
This time of year is usually the beginning of the dry season in the central region. The rainy season is usually from September to November. Unseasonal rains and floods have caused heavy damage to the localities.
Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, whirlwinds and big waves have struck coastal provinces from Thua Thien Hue to Phu Yen. The central provinces from Thua Thien-Hue and Khanh Hoa saw heavy rains from 200 to 300mm, even up to over 470mm in some places.
