Standing Deputy Prime Minister (PM) Pham Binh Minh, who is also Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, visited and worked with the Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security on January 20.

Major General Le Quoc Hung, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security, and Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee was among delegates attending the event.

Reports at the meeting read that the traffic police force in 2021 made significant contributions to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic while successfully conducting the task of ensuring traffic order and safety.

Particularly, the force enhanced patrols to control and handle traffic safety violations and guarded checkpoints to facilitate the transportation of essential goods so as to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Over the past year, the traffic police force handled some 2.9 million violations of road, railway and inland waterway traffic safety regulations, fined nearly VND 3,000 billion in total.

The traffic police also coordinated with other forces to successfully clear some 7,200 cases of criminal, economic and environmental offenses and arrested 10,700 related people.

In recognition of their achievements in 2021, the Traffic Police Department was awarded the second-class “Feat of Arms” Order by the President and the Excellent Emulation Flag by the Government.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the Government and the Prime Minister, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh praised the contributions made by the traffic police force in general and the Traffic Police Department in 2021.

The Deputy PM emphasized that in 2022, especially during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, the movement of people and goods will increase, which will pose challenges to the traffic police force.

In this context, in order to reduce traffic accidents in terms of number and casualty, the traffic police force should have make more efforts.

Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh asked the traffic police force in the coming time, especially during the Lunar New Year holiday, to increase patrols and strictly handle traffic safety violations related to drink and drug driving, and overspeeding.

On the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year, on behalf of the Government and the National Traffic Safety Committee, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh extended best wishes to all traffic police officers nationwide and hoped that they will obtain more achievements in ensuring traffic safety.

On behalf of the Ministry of Public Security leadership, Deputy Minister Le Quoc Hung promised to lead the traffic police force to follow the directions of the Deputy PM and Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee, and said that the force will fulfill its key tasks and maintain traffic order for the people to enjoy the traditional Tet holiday.
