During the first 6 months of 2020, the traffic police force accomplished four major tasks: drafting the law on ensuring road traffic safety; completing the organization, posting personnel and developing human resources to meet the task requirements in the current context; taking various professional approaches to fulfill its main mission; applying new technologies in its professional operations. Therefore, the traffic safety situation was remarkably improved in the first half of 2020.

The traffic police force nationwide also opened various campaigns with specific themes to effectively control the traffic. Especially, Decree No.100 issued by the Government on prohibiting drink-driving was strictly implemented.

The force also implemented various plans to ensure smooth traffic in critical areas, prevent traffic congestion and illegal motor race. In general, the nationwide traffic safety situation was improved dramatically in the first half; the number of traffic accidents and number of traffic tolls decreased compared to the same period last year.

Along with maintaining the traffic, the traffic police force also coordinated with other police forces in combating crime on the road. The traffic police force participated in stamping out 3,401 criminal and arresting 2,743 suspects.

In the coming time, the Traffic Police Department will focus on finalizing the draft Law on Ensuring Road Traffic Safety for the Ministry of Public Security to summit it to the Government and the National Assembly to consider at its 11th sitting session.

Meanwhile, the traffic police force will continue to closely follow the instructions of the Ministry of Public Security and open campaigns against traffic offences, focusing on drink and drug driving and other acts that likely lead to accidents, traffic congestion while mobilizing its assets and personnel to ensure traffic for all major events in the country.

The force should also deploy online payment services for traffic fines and vehicle registration fees on the National Public Service Portal.
