The nationwide traffic police force worked throughout the Tet, detecting and handling 7,726 cases of violating the regulation “Drinking while driving” (an increase of 598% compared to the same period last year). The effort of the traffic police resulted in a sharp decrease in the number of traffic accidents caused by alcohol influence.

During this Tet, traffic police units mobilized more than 2,000 officers and soldiers to work along key traffic routes across the country, and provided support for 96 groups and over 250,000 people, who returned home to celebrate Tet with their families before Tet and came back to big cities to work and study after the Tet holiday. Particularly, traffic police officers offered free drinking water, food, other essentials, helmets, free oil changes, as well as fixed their broken vehicles or took sick people to hospital.

Regarding the task of ensuring traffic order and safety in the early days of spring, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long requested that the traffic police continue to mobilize forces and means to ensure traffic order and safety on roads , especially arterial traffic routes, gateways to big cities, tourist destinations and festive sites. The Deputy Minister noted that, after two years of the Covid-19 epidemic, many festivals will be held on a large scale this year so there will be more risk of traffic congestion and accidents.

In that circumstance, the Traffic Police Department should direct the nationwide traffic police force to implement plans to ensure traffic order and safety during the spring festival season, so as not to cause prolonged traffic jams in localities.

The Deputy Minister emphasized that the traffic police force should further reduce the number of traffic accidents and deaths while drastically handling violations of alcohol concentration.
