Training course on Lao language for counter-narcotics policemen opened

A 5-month Lao language course has just opened, and it will be conducted in both in-person and virtual forms.

Under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Public Security (MPS) of Vietnam and Laos on cooperation in drug trafficking prevention and combat and under the authority of the MPS, the Departments of Training and the Counter-Narcotic Police in coordination with the University of Foreign Languages and International Studies, under the Hanoi-based Vietnam National University opened a course on Lao language for 106 officers and soldiers of the Counter-Narcotic Police Department and 10 policemen from the provincial police departments of provinces sharing border with Laos.

Due to the complicated situations of the COVID-19 epidemic, the course is held online. Students of the course would improve their ability to use Lao language in communication and information exchange at work. A good command of Lao language can very much help policemen in charge of fighting drug trafficking.

Senior Colonel Phan Van My, Vice Director of the Training Department under the Ministry of Public Security, highlighted the importance of the course, saying that it contributes to promoting the cooperation between the two ministries in preventing and fighting drug trafficking across the borderline between the two countries.
