Vietnam and China promote ties in crime prevention and fight

PSNews - The 6th Vietnam – China Conference on Cooperation in Crime Control took place in Beijing, China on October 10.

The conference was co-chaired by Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, and Mr. Zhao Kezhi, State Councilor and Minister of Public Security of China.

Speaking at the event, Minister To Lam emphasized that the bilateral ties between the two Ministries of Public Security have gained various outstanding results in the past time, particularly since the 5th Conference.

Meanwhile, the outcomes of the cooperation between the two ministries have been praised by leaders of the two Parties, States and become a highlight in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Regarding cooperation in crime prevention and fight, delegates at the conference underscored that under-ministerial police units and local police forces of the two countries proactively exchanged information and coordinated closely in carrying out 7 campaigns to suppress trans-border crimes, including human trafficking, drug-related crimes and counterfeit money crimes, as well as in arresting fugitives or telecommunication frauds.

In order to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation in law enforcement between the two ministries, both sides agreed to seriously implement the cooperation contents of signed agreements; maintain exchanges of delegations and continue to promote cooperation in preventing and fighting crimes, including terrorism, hi-tech crime, drug-related crime, human trafficking, as well as in manhunts and illegal immigration.

Both sides also agreed to launch intensive campaigns to suppress various types of crimes with a focus on human trafficking, drug-related crime or counterfeit money crime and arrest of fugitives and telecommunication frauds while ensuring security and safety, legitimate rights and interests of citizens, agencies and enterprises of one country doing business, living and studying in the other country.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen cooperation in professional training and technical support in the field of crime prevention and combat, and strengthen law enforcement cooperation within the framework of multilateral cooperation mechanisms, such as the China - Greater Mekong Sub-Region and China - ASEAN, for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

In the end of the conference, the two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the outcomes of the conference.
