Vietnam and Laos agree to promote ties in security and order

The General Department of Police of Vietnam hosted the 9th Conference on Cooperation on Crime Prevention and Fight between the police forces of Vietnam and Laos on July 26.

Lieutenant General Tran Van Ve, Director of the General Department of Police of Vietnam and Major General Thong Leck Mang No Meck co-chaired the event.

According to reports at the conference, over the past year, the cooperation in crime prevention and fight between the police forces of the two countries has brought about practical and effective outcomes. 

Along the Vietnam – Laos borderline, the Investigation Police of Drug-related Crimes of the two countries have coordinated closely; as a result they detected 4,206 cases, arrested 5,554 persons involved and seized 423.399 kg of heroin, 116,873 kg of opium, 94 kg of cannabis, 15.2 kg of ketamine, 132.29 kg and 539.159 pills of synthetic drugs.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to promote crime information exchange, coordinate in investing criminal cases, and enhance their cooperation in the Interpol and Aseanapol mechanisms. 

They also saw the need to expand cooperation on personnel training, material support, technical advice and other aspects to ensure security and order on both sides of the shared borderline while establishing information exchange mechanisms between the two police forces and maintain the annual conference on the basis of alternation.
