Vietnam and Laos review cooperation in counter-narcotic crimes

The Ministries of Public Security of Vietnam and Laos held a ministerial-level meeting in Hanoi on October 26 to review the implementation of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in drug prevention and control.

Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc and Lao Deputy Minister Khamking Phuilamanyvong co-chaired the conference.

The two ministries signed the MoU on cooperation in drug prevention and control on August 9, 2021 in Vientiane, Laos.

After a year of implementation, the police forces of the two countries have actively developed plans, implemented drastically the assigned tasks, and achieved important results.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Duy Ngoc appreciated the effective and active cooperation from the Lao partners in the fight against drug-related crimes over the past time.

He also suggested expanding cooperation in the coming time, noting that Vietnam will do its best to coordinate and support Laos in the struggle against drug crimes.

An overview of the event. 

Ngoc expressed his hope that counter-narcotic cooperation between the two sides would be strengthened after the conference, contributing to curbing drug-related crimes in each country and in the region as a whole.

The illicit drug trafficking situation on the Vietnam-Laos borderline still remains complicated. So the two deputy ministers asked functional forces of the two countries to effectively implement the content of the MoU.

At the event, the two deputy ministers presented Certificates of Merit from the Ministers of Public Security of the two countries to various teams and individuals for their outstanding achievements in implementation of the MoU as well as in the fight against drug-related crimes over the past time.
