Vietnam and Thailand boost cooperation in drug combat

PSNews - Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security on September 18 had a meeting with Thailand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Prajin Juntong on the sidelines of the 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters.

The 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters was officially opened on October 18 in Hanoi by the Permanent Bureau of Drug Prevention and Control under the Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security and the Vietnam National Committee for AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Control.

On the sidelines of the event, Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security had a meeting with Thailand Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of  Justice, General Prajin Juntong.

Since Vietnam and Thailand signed a bilateral drug combat cooperation agreement in 1998, the two sides have cooperated comprehensively in training and exchange of experiences, sharing of information and other activities to step up cooperation in drug combat. In addition to the bilateral cooperation mechanism, Vietnam and Thailand actively support each other at multilateral forums.

At the working session, the two sides discussed the time and venue of the 12th Vietnam-Thailand Conference on Drug Prevention and Combat to be held in Thailand. The Thai side also invited Vietnam to chair activities of the Mekong River Initiative in 2019. The two sides also talked about the implementation of Thailand's aid for Vietnam to improve the effectiveness of drug prevention activities.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong highly appreciated the efforts and initiatives of Thailand to improve the effectiveness of cooperation in drug-related crimes prevention among countries in the region.

He also thanked the Thai side for their continued support for Vietnam in the fight against drugs.
