Vietnam, Belarus to strengthen bilateral ties on security

Senior Lieutenant General To Lam, Minister of Public Security of Vietnam and Belarusian State Security Committee Chairman Valery Pavlovich Valulchi had made this statement during a meeting held in Hanoi on October 21.

The two sides also agreed to ensure cooperation towards negotiating and signing agreements on mutual legal assistance, criminal extradition, and transfer of convicted prisoners, which will facilitate their future legal cooperation in the context of increasing criminal crimes.

At the meeting, Minister To Lam expressed his pleasure to see that, over the years, relations of traditional friendship between Vietnam and Belarus are constantly being strengthened, developed in many fields.

Vietnamese Minister of Public Security proposed the two sides to strengthen comprehensive cooperation in other fields such as: Exchanging information on emerging issues in the Asia-Pacific and the world; Prevention and control of organized crime, criminal use of high-tech, terrorism; Human trafficking crimes and Non-traditional security threats.

Concerning the East Sea issue, Minister To Lam state that Vietnam want Belarus to continue to support Vietnam’s and ASEAN’s stance on the East Sea issue on settling disputes, including disputes in the East Sea, by peaceful measures and in line with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), to ensure security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation on the East Sea.

On his part, Pavlovich Vakulchik appreciated the great cooperation between Belarus's law enforcement agencies and the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security which, he emphasized, has contributed to increasing the traditional bilateral relations.

He also expressed his wish that cooperation between Vietnam Ministry of Public Security and the KGB of Belarus would continue to grow and achieve more practical results in all fields in order to maintain social order and safety and national security in both country.
