Vietnam, Cambodia enhance coordination in fighting crime

At the meetings, the Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security congratulated Cambodia on its successful organization of the fifth term commune-level council election as well as the Cambodia People’s Party on its victory at the election. He also stated that the Cambodian Ministry of Interior and police had contributed largely to the success of the election.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the situation in the region and world. The two sides acknowledged that relations between the two countries have still gained positive results over the past time in spite of complicated developments in the region. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the two sides maintained exchange of high-ranking visits. 

Meanwhile, leaders of the two countries always consider security and defense cooperation as a major pillar in bilateral relations and reiterate that maintaining national security and political stability in one country is very important to the stability and development of the other.

Over the past time, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Cambodian Ministry of Interior as well as police forces of the two countries have also strengthened their cooperation and coordination in safeguarding national security and maintaining public order and safety in each country.

Particularly, the two sides coordinated closely in ensuring security and safety for visits of high-ranking delegations of one country to the other. Police forces of the two countries regularly shared information about crime, joined efforts in investigating criminal cases related to citizens of the two countries as well as in arresting fugitive criminals of one country hiding in the other.

Specially, the Cambodian Ministry of Interior has directed Cambodian competent agencies to grant legal residency documents to Vietnamese nationals in Cambodia over the past time.

At the meetings, the two sides agreed that Vietnamese nationals in Cambodia are an inseparable part of the Cambodians. They also shared the view that the two countries should accelerate the building of population database, considering it an important premise to build an e-government, digital economy and digital society in each country. 

The Vietnamese deputy minister stressed that the Vietnamese Party and State always attach much importance to developing traditional good friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation with Cambodia while the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security is always willing to strengthen ties with the Cambodian Ministry of Interior.

He stated that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security will increase cooperation activities with the Cambodian Ministry of Interior, such as exchange of visits and cultural activities on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations.

At the two meetings, both Mr. Neth Savoeun and Mr. Mao Chandara affirmed that they will direct Cambodian competent forces to enhance cooperation with the Vietnamese side in safeguarding security and safety for political events in the two countries in the coming time, particularly the 2022 ASEAN Summit, SEA Game 32 hosted by Cambodia.
