This was the fourth trial since Pham Trung Dung was arrested. The jury still decided that Dung’s sentence should stand based on the large quantity of heroin he had carried when arrested.

Dung was arrested on May 15. 2013 while he and his wife were trying to board a flight from Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Australia. Police force detected two plastic packets containing white powder, wrapped in silver foil, pressed thinly in his suitcase.

Results of official scientific tests have shown that the white powder in Dung’s baggage has been 3.6 kg of drug with more than 2kg of essence.

At the local investigation agency, Dung declared that he was hired by an unknown man named Kien to carry the drug to Australia to get A$ 40,000 in return.
