Vietnam, Iran promote security and law enforcement cooperation

PSNews - Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang hosted a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Vietnam Ali Akbar Nazari, on the afternoon of August 23rd, in Hanoi.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang congratulated the State and people of Iran on successfully organizing the recent presidential election, and believed that under the leadership of newly-elected President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iran will achieve further development in the coming time.

Minister Luong Tam Quang highlighted that the bilateral cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS) and Iranian partners had been continually strengthened and developed over the past time.

The host revealed that the two sides had closely cooperated in ensuring security and safety for one country’s embassy, diplomatic officials and citizens living and working in the other country, while regularly exchanging criminal information via INTERPOL, especially information about transnational organized crimes.

In addition, the two sides have signed many important bilateral cooperation documents creating a legal corridor for cooperation activities such as the Agreement on Extradition, the Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MPS and the Iranian Ministry of Interior, and the MoU between MPS and the Iranian Law Enforcement Command.

To further promote bilateral cooperation between the two countries in general and between MPS and Iranian law enforcement agencies in particular, Minister Luong Tam Quang suggested that the two sides should effectively implement signed cooperation documents, while early completing the procedure for the signing of a MoU on cybersecurity between MPS and the Iranian Law Enforcement Command and a MoU on cooperation between MPS and the Iranian Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces Logistics.

The Vietnamese Minister also suggested that the two sides continue to exchange information and experiences in applying information technology into the work of preventing and combating high-tech crimes, while closely coordinating to fight transnational crimes, high-tech crimes as well as crimes related to citizens of the two countries.

Minister Luong Tam Quang also proposed that the two sides should enhance delegation exchange in order to explore the needs and potentials of the other country, thereby to promote bilateral cooperation, especially in cybersecurity, counter-terrorism, training of special task force and mobile police and capacity-building programs on professional expertise and foreign languages (including Vietnamese and Persian) for law enforcement forces of the two countries.

Sincerely thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, Ambassador Ali Akbar Nazari affirmed that, despite many fluctuations in the global and regional situation, Iran and Vietnam have always maintained a good friendship, closely cooperated and provided great support for the other.

The Iranian Ambassador pledged that, in his position, he will spare no effort to promote the relations between the two countries in general and boost the cooperation between MPS and Iranian law enforcement agencies to develop in depth, achieving the goals set by the two countries.
