Vietnam, Laos’ police seek approach to strengthen cooperation in controlling crime

PSNews -  Recently, a Ministerial Meeting on Counter-Drugs Cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Public Security of Laos took place in Hanoi.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, Chairman of the National Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Control, attended and delivered remarks at the meeting.

Deputy Minister and Head of the Police Investigation Agency of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, leading a delegation of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, and Deputy Minister of Public Security of Laos Lieutenant General Khamking Phuilamanyvong, heading a Lao Public Security Ministry's delegation, chaired the meeting.

The meeting provided a good chance for the two ministries in general and the counter-narcotics police forces of the two countries in particular to evaluate bilateral cooperation in crime prevention and control over the past time, and work on cooperation orientations between the police forces of the two countries in the coming time.

According to reports delivered at the meeting, on the basis of the signed cooperation documents between the two sides, the police forces of the two countries have cooperated closely with each other in preventing and combating crime, especially drug trafficking; as a result, they had achieved numerous remarkable results, over the past time.

Notably, the two sides have strengthened information exchange regarding drug-related crimes as well as other types of crime via the hotline network connecting police units of all levels of their 4-level public security organizational structure, jointly investigated and cleared cases of transnational crime, exchanged hands-on experiences as well as supported each other in equipment and facilities, and organized training courses for the two sides’ police officers, especially those in charge of preventing and combating drug trafficking.

Within the framework of the meeting, the two Public Security Ministries also exchanged the current security and criminal situations in the two countries as well as evaluated the results of their cooperation in implementing the signed cooperation documents.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long hailed the effort of the two Ministries of Public Security in promoting bilateral cooperation, working on initiatives and solutions to promptly address new developments in the drug-trafficking and crime situation.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested that the two delegations should carefully evaluate the results of the bilateral cooperation, openly discuss remaining difficulties and obstacles to bilateral cooperation, as well as figure out orientations and essential tasks for the two sides to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the coming time.
