Vietnam, Lithuania strive to strengthen traditional friendly relations and cooperation

PSNews – A high-ranking delegation of the Ministry of Public Security, led by its Minister, General To Lam, on May 20 and 21 paid a working visit to Lithuania at the invitation of the Lithuanian Minister of Interior.

During the working visit to Lithuania, Minister To Lam had talks with Lithuanian Minister of Interior Mr. Eimutis Misiunas. At the talks, Minister Eimutis Misiunas highly appreciated the visit of the Vietnam’s delegation to the country.

Mr. Eimutis Misiunas expressed his belief that the visit would contribute to strengthening the traditional friendly relations and cooperation between Lithuania and Vietnam, as well as the close ties between the Lithuanian Ministry of Interior and Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security.

General To Lam, for his part, emphasized that in recent years, the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries have increasingly developed in many fields, including the effective cooperation of the law enforcement sphere.

He said Vietnam wished to continue promoting cooperation in various fields, based on the two countries’ strengths and needs, and increasing exchanges of delegations at all levels, including exchanges between businesses and people of the two countries.

At the talks, the two Ministers exchanged with each other international issues of mutual concern as well as the security and order situation in each country. They also reviewed cooperation results in recent times and proposed measures to promote cooperation in the future.

The two sides agreed that the cooperation in immigration management and return of citizens is a new ‘bright spot’ in the overall bilateral cooperation between the two ministries. They vowed to continue increasing the sharing of information and experience in preventing and fighting crimes, especially high-tech crimes, drug-related crimes, human trafficking, financial crimes and environmental crimes.

The two sides also agreed to assign relevant agencies of the two ministries to draft, negotiate and sign cooperation deals on crime prevention and combat, on extradition, on transfer of sentenced persons, and on mutual legal assistance in criminal affairs while promoting cooperation in human resource development through training courses and seminars.

* Within the framework of the working visit to Lithuanna, Minister To Lam and Minister Eimutis Misiunas visited the Medininkai Border Guard Station, and watched local forces in preventing and combating crimes.
