Vietnam police crack down on nearly 2,000 criminal gangs in 2016

PSNews – The General Department of Police under the Public Security Ministry held a conference to roll out tasks for 2017 on December 28th. Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security made a keynote speech at the conference. 

At the conference, Lieutenant General Phan Van Vinh, Director of the General Department of Police reported the main contents of the 72th National Public Security Conference. He then briefed the results of police work in 2016 and announced working programmes of the General Department of Police in 2017.

In 2016, the General Department of Police synchronously and drastically implemented its assigned tasks, achieving many positive outcomes. The police force regularly organized peak drives to attack and crack down on criminal gangs, contributing to reducing criminal offenses such as the number of new wanted fugitives falling to 10.97%, the number of leftover wanted fugitives reducing to 7.79%, and the rate of resolved cases rising form 2015.

Accordingly, the investigation police at all levels succeeded in investing and uncovering critical murder cases in the provinces of Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, Nghe An, Ha Nam, Ba Ria – Vung Tau. The force cracked down on 1,997 criminal gangs, arrested and called for surrender over 6,200 suspects.

The force also focused on investigating 8 key corruption and economic cases and brought these cases to trial before the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The force also actively resolved the offenses of Formosa causing the environmental incidents in the central provinces.

Additionally, the force cracked down on many large drug trafficking networks, online gambling and football betting cases, counterfeits, trade frauds and smugglings. But the rate of high-tech crime rose by 30.4%.

Over the year, the force has arrested nearly 3,320 smuggling cases, over 6,400 cases of transporting prohibited goods fake goods, goods of unknown origins. 

On behalf of the Central Public Security Party Committee and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security praised the police force for their achievements in 2016.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong underscored that in the coming time, the General Department of Police should play a good role as an advisory unit for the Political Bureau, the Government and the Ministry of Public Security on mass mobilization for attacking criminals, prevention and fight against crimes and guarantee of social order and safety.  

The force should also promote inspection work, give guidance to local police units, as well as provide concrete solutions and plans to combat criminals, environmental and high-tech crimes.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong finally asked all police units to roll out their missions and focus on suppressing crimes, ensuring safety for people in the coming Lunar New Year.
