Vietnam reports 17th case of COVID-19 infection

Vietnam has confirmed the discovery of its 17th case of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection with the latest case being a 26-year-old female from Truc Bach ward in Ba Dinh district of Hanoi, according to the Ministry of Health.

In the face of the situation, the Hanoi Steering Committee for COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control convened an urgent night meeting on March 6 to inform about the incident related to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Those in attendance included Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Vuong Dinh Hue, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long alongside municipal leaders and representatives from different departments and agencies.

The patient returned to Hanoi on March 1 on flight VN0054. She earlier traveled to London, Milan, and Paris and during the period in the European nations, she had come into contact with many people with symptoms of cough and sneezing.

On March 3, she displayed signs of fever, cough and fatigue. On March 5, she run a high temperature and was taken to the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases where her initial testing results came positive for coronavirus.

The patient is being put into strict quarantine at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases and those the patient had come into close contact with are under investigation.

To date, the nation has had 17 people infected with the COVID-19 disease, of which 16 have gone on to make a successful recovery.

Hanoi Party Committee Secretary Vuong Dinh Hue asked Vietnam Airlines to identify the information regarding the passengers with her same flight.
The Ministry of Health will continue to keep the public updated on the developments of the infection case as well as necessary measures to be taken in the time ahead to contain the spread of the disease.
