Vietnam, the US promote crime prevention cooperation

PSNews - Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security said cooperation in developing human resources specializing in crime prevention is a top priority in security cooperation between Vietnam and the US.

At a meeting with the Deputy Ambassador of the US to Vietnam Susan Sutton on Nov. 22, Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong also said, cooperation activities between agencies, ministries and departments of the two countries have developed and brought the Vietnam - US comprehensive partnership to a new level.

In recent time, the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Security and the U.S. law enforcement agencies has gained many positive results in prevention and fight against crimes in both countries. The two sides also agreed to pay more attention to preventing terrorism, organized crimes, high-tech crimes and environmental crimes.

The Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Public Security also revealed, over the past years, the Vietnamese authorities have received a number of requests from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other agencies and Vietnam has fully met the requirements of the US side in accordance with the signed agreements between the two sides.

He hoped the US will also support Vietnam in training crime prevention officers by organizing courses for Vietnamese officials in the US or sending US experts to train Vietnamese officers in Vietnam in the coming time.

On her part, the U.S. Deputy Ambassador Susan Sutton expressed thanks to Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong for the reception. She affirmed that the US attaches great importance to strengthening the Vietnam - US comprehensive partnership in general as well as the close bilateral cooperation on security in particular.

She also said US Secretary of State John Kerry will visit Vietnam in December, hoping the visit will open up more space for bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the US.
