Vietnam Traffic Police’s role ininternational cooperation on transportation

PSNews-International cooperation in traffic order and safety offers a chance for countries to discuss and find common solution to different issues, including consequences of transportation activities, such as traffic jams, accidents and pollution.

International integration has become an objective trend in the world, bringing both opportunities and challenges to national stability and development of nations.

In recent years, Vietnam has signed and implemented various agreements for cooperation with many countries in the Greater Mekong sub-region, ASEAN and Asia Pacific region.

International integration in terms of transportation can have direct impacts on the situation of traffic safety and order in Vietnam, which makes the traffic demand of people increase, affecting the traffic order and safety situation. Unplanned urbanization, population boom, expansion of trade and services, and growth of international relations and international integration can also result in increasing intensity and density of traffic, driving the traffic order and safety more complicated.

The Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam attaches great importance to international cooperation on management of traffic safety and order. over the past years, the MPS has directed the Traffic Police Force to participate in various important cooperation projects on traffic order and safety; sent various delegations of traffic officers overseas to learn good lessons and experiences as well as attend international conferences on traffic order and safety management; at the same time..

However, quick and complex developments in the traffic situation have caused pressing issues in traffic order and safety management of the Vietnamese traffic police. This reality is now requiring the traffic police force to enhance the management of freight and passenger services, to tightly monitor and check both drivers and vehicles, to effectively and quickly apply high technologies in the State management of traffic order and safety, and augment sense of responsibility, law and foreign languages knowledge, and expertise for law enforcement officers.

Besides, it is necessary for the Traffic Police Force to equip themselves with knowledge and understanding of all agreements on travelling, transportation, traffic order and safety signed by Vietnam and regional and neighboring countries so that they could well perform their tasks in every situation.

Colonel Do Thanh Binh, Deputy Director of Traffic Police Department.
