Vietnamese and Lao forces crack down on over 1,500 drug cases

PSNews - A conference on enhancing law dissemination and suppression of drug-related crimes along the Vietnam – Laos borderline took place on August 20 in Thanh Hoa under the chair of Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Vietnam, and Lieutenant General Somvang Thammasith, Deputy Minister of Public Security of Laos.

According to reports at the conference, the police forces of the two countries jointly investigated 1,530 drug cases and arrested over 2,000 people involved, including 8 wanted drug criminals, seized 1,600 kg of heroin, marijuana and synthetic drugs, 304,085 pills of synthetic drugs and various exhibits.

The Public Security Forces of the 4 Lao provinces of Houaphan, Bolikhamxai, Khammouan and Xiangkhouang, cracked down on 17 drug cases and arrested 27 suspects, including Vietnamese people, seized 161,154 pills of synthetic drugs, 27 kg of synthetic drugs and heroin.

Speaking at the conference, Lieutenant General Somvang Thammasith highlighted that the police forces of the two countries met various difficulties, while implementing the cooperation plans between the two Ministries, but achieved important outcomes in prevention and combat of crimes. The two sides also supported each other in technical services and other areas.

Deputy Minister Le Quy Vuong suggested all functional forces of the two countries continue to implement the minute of the conference on cooperation in control of drugs, psychotropic and precursor materials. 

On this occasion, the MPS of Vietnam presented Certificates of Merit to 10 teams and 20 individuals with outstanding achievements in the movement of enhancing law dissemination and suppression of drug-related crimes along the Vietnam – Laos borderline.
