Vietnamese and Lao police leaders show strong resolve to fight drug trafficking

Delegates from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Public Security of Laos had a meeting on November 10 in Hanoi to discuss orientations for the bilateral cooperation in the remaining months of 2023 and 2024, following the 2024 Cooperation Plan signed between two sides.

The delegation from the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam was led by Deputy Minister Lieutenant General Nguyen Duy Ngoc while the Lao delegation was headed by Deputy Minister Lieutenant General Khamkh Phuilamanivong.

Regarding orientations for cooperation in the coming time, the two sides agreed to further strengthen delegation exchange at all levels, especially visits of the two sides’ high-level delegations to strengthen political trust between the two countries.

The two sides should also regularly share information about crime, especially illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking, transnational crime, as well as join efforts to arrest wanted fugitives of one country hiding in another country.

Meanwhile, agencies and units of the two sides actively share practical experience in crime prevention and control, organize conferences and seminars on security and order between the two sides, and jointly hold professional and foreign language training courses  for officers of the two sides.

The two deputy ministers assigned relevant units to develop detailed plans to implement tasks, including cooperation on citizen identification and population management, and fight against illicit drug trafficking.
