Vietnamese health ministry receives 10,000 COVID-19 test kits

PSNews - Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan received 10,000 sets of COVID-19 testing kits donated by the Ampharco U.S.A Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company at a ceremony held in Hanoi on May 12.

Speaking at the event, Thuan highly appreciated the company’s success in using the technology from the Vietnam Military Medical University to produce the ‘made in Vietnam’ kits.

The test kit, which can detect most strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to date, is a joint product of the Military Medical Academy and Ampharco U.S.A comany, applying new technologies from the US.

Licensed by the Ministry of Health to circulate under Decision No. 2263/QD-BYT issued on May 7, the Ampharco U.S.A’s AmphaBio HT- Hithroughput PCR COVID-19 kit can detect most of the current coronavirus variants.

Under the Prime Minister’s direction, the ministry set up a board for the mobilisation and coordination of resources for COVID-19 prevention and control in March. The freshly received test kits will be stored at the company’s warehouse to ensure preservation conditions and be distributed to localities in need following real-life situations.

Vietnam’s COVID-19 testing capacity has been significantly improved, with several laboratories across the country capable of handling up to 100,000 samples per day, according to figures given by representatives from the Ministry of Health.

As reported, 1.682 million doses of AstraZenceca COVID-19 vaccine will arrive in Vietnam on May 16. Supplied by COVAX Facility via the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the vaccine will be distributed to all agencies and localities to speed up the vaccination programme. 

The ministry has also been seeking other sources of vaccines and implementing comprehensive measures to ensure safe vaccination.

Currently, 62 localities nationwide have completed their vaccination plans with more than 942,030 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine injected into frontline medical staff, people involving in COVID-19 prevention and control activities as well as military and public security officers.
