Vietnamese, Lao police tighten anti-crime cooperation

The Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police Department of Vietnam and the police departments of Salavan and Se Kong provinces of Laos co-organized a meeting to review the implementation of the 2023 Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on security and order and the MoC on drug prevention and control for 2022 – 2025 period, on September 19th, in Thua Thien Hue.

Director of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police Department Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Tuan, Lao Director of the Salavan Provincial Police Department Major General Sisot Sondala and Lao Director of the Se Kong Provincial Police Department Colonel Khamban Phommavong co-chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, the leaders of the three police departments briefed delegates on the socio-economic and security and order situation in the three provinces in the first 6 months of 2024, evaluated results of the implementation of the 2023 MoC on security and order and the MoC on drug prevention and control for 2022 – 2025 period, and proposed approaches to further promote cross-border cooperation in the coming time.

Accordingly, over the past time, the three police departments have effectively cooperated in preventing and combating crimes, especially drug-related crimes, along the shared borderlines while encouraging people on both sides of the shared border to comply with the policies, guidelines and laws of the two Parties and two States, contributing to raising people’ vigilance against crimes, especially drug-related crimes and human trafficking.

Speaking at the meeting, Director of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police Department Senior Colonel Nguyen Thanh Tuan affirmed that, based on the special traditional friendship between the two countries, the three police departments have closely coordinated and achieved numerous positive results in safeguarding national security and ensuring social order along the shared borderlines over the past time, .

The meeting contributed to deepening the faithful relationship between the police departments while providing a valuable opportunity for the police forces of the two countries to exchange information about the security and order situation in each country as well as to review cooperation results over the past time.

At the meeting, they also discussed and agreed on approaches to further strengthen cooperation in a practical and effective manner, in line with directions of the two Parties and States in general and the two Public Security Ministries in particular.

At the meeting, the three police chiefs agreed to effectively implement the cooperation documents between the two ministries, especially the 2024 MoC on security and order  and the MoC on drug prevention and control for 2022 – 2025 period between the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police Department and the police departments of Salavan and Se Kong provinces of Laos.
