Vietnamese police attend the 18th INTERPOL Chief of Staff Conference

A delegation from the Office of the Criminal Investigation Authority of the Ministry of Public Security (with the INTERPOL Vietnam Office as its affiliate), led by Deputy Chief of the Office Major General Le Van Tan, attended the 18th INTERPOL Chief of Staff Conference from June 7 to 9 in Singapore.

Within the framework of the INTERPOL Chief of Staff Meeting, the INTERPOL Secretariat organized roundtables for delegations from Europe, Americas, Africa, Middle East - North Africa and the Asia - Pacific region.

Attending the Asia-Pacific Roundtable, the Vietnamese delegation together with other countries in the region discussed security challenges and security priorities in the region; INTERPOL's campaigns to prevent and control crime in the Asia-Pacific region as well as INTERPOL's support for member states to respond to threats in the region.

* On the sidelines of the conference, the Vietnamese delegation had bilateral meetings with delegations from the US INTERPOL Office and the Japan INTERPOL Office to evaluate the achieved results of the bilateral cooperation, advantages and obstacles to cooperation between police forces of Vietnam and the US and Vietnam and Japan.

At the same time, they sought approaches to improve the efficiency of the bilateral cooperation efficiency in the coming time, with a focus on sharing information about crime of all kinds, joining efforts in investigating transnational criminal cases, coordinating in the pursuit of wanted by Vietnam and other countries in the region.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese delegation asked the US and Japanese police forces to support Vietnam in personnel training and capacity building to more effectively prevent and combat crimes.

At the bilateral meetings, the US and Japan sides highly appreciated the goodwill of the Vietnamese police to cooperate with their sides in the fight against crime, and wished to strengthen their coordination and cooperation with Vietnam in the future.
