At the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang thanked the ASEAN General Secretary and the ASEAN Secretariat for their support for the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam (MPS) in effectively implementing cooperation activities within ASEAN multilateral mechanisms on preventing and combating transnational crimes over the past time.

The Vietnamese Minister affirmed that since joining ASEAN, Vietnam always considers ASEAN one of the important pillars in the country's foreign policy, and highlighted that,  since its participation in ASEAN nearly 30 years ago, Vietnam has assumed  ASEAN Chairmanship for three times and made large contributions to building an ASEAN Community of solidarity, peace, stability, safety, prosperity and self-resilience, contributing to effectively implementing the 2025 ASEAN Community Vision on all the three pillars, as well as developing a strategy realizing the 2045 ASEAN Community Vision .

Regarding the ASEAN Political-Security Community, Minister Luong Tam Quang underlined that Vietnam’s MPS is always committed to actively and responsibly joining ASEAN countries' efforts in addressing regional and global issues, contributing to the regional and international environment of peace and stability, while actively and effectively participating in ASEAN cooperation mechanisms such as the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC), the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Drug Matters (AMMD).

The Minister proposed that, in the coming time, the ASEAN chief and ASEAN Secretariat will continue to support Vietnam to lead or jointly take the lead in the one of the ten regional campaigns against transnational crimes that ASEAN launched and Vietnam has sufficient resources for, such as cybercrime, drug-related crimes or human trafficking.

Minister Luong Tam Quang also called on General Secretary Kao Kim Hourn and the ASEAN Secretariat to support Vietnam’s initiatives and cooperation projects within the framework of the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting on Transnational Crime (SOMTC), while asking them to create favorable conditions for police officers from the Vietnam’s MPS to apply for positions at agencies of the ASEAN Secretariat so that they can improve their capacity to work in an international environment, meeting Vietnam’s requirements of promoting comprehensive and extensive international integration.

As the coordinator of ASEAN-UK and ASEAN-New Zealand relations for the 2024 - 2027 period, Vietnam wishes to make more contributions to strengthening cooperation against transnational crimes between ASEAN and the two partners, said  Minister Luong Tam Quang. He  also proposed that the ASEAN Secretariat actively support the Vietnam’s MPS and ASEAN member states to put forward specific cooperation proposals and initiatives to maximize the advantages of the available regional cooperation mechanisms.

Thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, ASEAN General Secretary Kao Kim Hourn acknowledged Vietnam’s contributions to the ASEAN Community as well as its coordinator role in ASEAN, while highly appreciating the collaboration of the Vietnam’s MPS in training and building capacities of law enforcement officers of ASEAN member states.

The ASEAN Secretary also applauded Vietnam for successfully coordinating the relations between ASEAN and the Republic of Korea in 2021 – 2024 period, and wished the country to effectively perform its role as coordinator of ASEAN-UK and ASEAN-New Zealand relations in 2023 – 2027 period.
