PSNews- In response to the Action Month for Drug Prevention and Control, the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking and the National Day for Drug Prevention and Control, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), in coordination with the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, held a ceremony themed “Joint Effort for a Drug-free Community” on June 25, in Quang Ninh province.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long, Chairman of the National Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Control, chaired the ceremony.

The event also saw the presence of Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for National Defence, Security and Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Hung.

Over the years, the Party and State have attached great importance to leading anti-drug efforts through various policies, guidelines and strategies, in the face of big threats of illicit drugs.

Thanks to the strong involvement of the entire political system and close, effective coordination among ministries, sectors, agencies and localities, drug prevention and control work has achieved significant outcomes over the past time.

On behalf of the Government and the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long acknowledged and commended Central agencies, ministries, sectors and localities for their determination, efforts and positive results in drug prevention and control.

He also praised counter-narcotics forces for their dedication and sacrifices in the fight against drugs, stressing that they have made significant contributions to safeguarding national security, ensuring social order and safety, and fostering national development.

To prevent and control illicit drugs in an efficient and sustainable manner, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested that ministries, sectors, agencies, local authorities and relevant forces continue to rigorously implement the Party’s guidelines as well as national policies, laws and strategies on drug prevention and control, stressing that anti-drug work is a political task and a humanitarian mission, and the work is intrinsically linked to national safety, stability, sustainable development and the people's peaceful and happy lives.

The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that specialized forces, especially the Public Security Forces, should proactively grasp the situation and promptly address drug-related issues early and from the grassroots level while strengthening State management over conditional investment and business sectors and sensitive security-related services.

He also noted that law enforcement agencies should closely monitor lawful activities related to drugs and proactively prevent, detect and combat offenses related to trafficking, use, harboring and production of illicit drugs.

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister requested competent authorities to continue strictly managing drug addicts and illegal drug users, eliminate complex drug using and trading hotbeds and effectively utilize the National Population Database to manage drug addicts, illegal drug users and post-rehabilitation individuals.
