Yen Bai gears up for Vietnam Tourism Year 2017

As a gateway of the northern region of Vietnam with many special tourism products, the northern province of Yen Bai has prepared activities for the Lao Cai – Northwest National Tourism Year 2017.

Cultural events for National Tourism Year are ready to be held across the province in the middle of May, said Nguyen Anh Tien, Chief of Culture and Information Division of Van Yen district.

A festival worshipping the Mother Goddess of Mountain and Forest, one of the highlights of this year’s event in Yen Bai, will be held in Dong Cuong temple in Van Yen district for the first time. It is hoped to provide locals and visitors a new access to a typical cultural heritage of Vietnam.

Van Yen district will also host activities that introduce local food, costumes and rituals.

In other localities, Muong Lo Tourism Week and Mu Cang Chai Terraced Fields Festival will be held in September, with a wide range of activities such as street festival, photo contest and a trade fair.

Events to introduce community and adventure tourism are also set to take place in Van Chan and Mu Cang Chai districts.

Dai Minh Grapefruit Festival and boat racing competition on Thac Ba Lake are slated for early October.

The province will coordinate with other provinces to promote spiritual tourism as part of a programme to develop this kind of tourism along the Red River, said Tran Thuy Luu, Head of Tourism Management Division, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The activities aim to attract more domestic and international visitors to Yen Bai province while creating breakthroughs in tourism and contributing to local development.
