Yen Bai Police donate money for flood-stricken local people

PSNews – Recently, officers and soldiers of the Yen Bai Provincial Police decided to spend their one-day salary to donate for flood-stricken local people, with the aim of helping them overcome flood consequences. 

Heavy rainfalls from July 18-21 which created floods and landslides in northern mountainous provinces left 29 people dead, five other missing and 26 injured. 

Of the dead, 15 were in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai. The natural disasters also destroyed and flooded 12,383 houses, killed and swept away 121,389 heads of livestock, and affected 6,208 ha of aquaculture.

Therefore, with the aim of promoting the tradition of solidarity, officers and soldiers of the Yen Bai Provincial Police spent their one-day salary to donate flood victims in Van Chan, My Cang Chai, Tram Tau, Van Yen, Nghia Lo and Yen Bai city. Besides,  the Yen Bai Provincial Police also mobilized nearly 1,000 soldiers along with a number of facilities to help people evacuate and overcome consequences after the storm.

Nguyen Duc Quang, Deputy Chief of Office of the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control instructed rescuing forces and local authorities to focus on on handling the consequences of downpours, floods, and landslides; search and rescue operations; food supply; environmental treatment; post-flood disease prevention; and production restoration, while keeping a close watch on the development of regional weather movements.

In particular, the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting announced that downpours will hit Thanh Hoa and other northern provinces as from the afternoon of July 25. The natural disaster triggered by heavy rains might reach level 1 and even 2 in Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Lai Chau provinces. Hanoi will also see prolonged and torrential downpours and thunderstorms as from the evening of July 25.

As from July 27, torrential rains in the mountainous and midland region tend to extend to northern Red River Delta and Thanh Hoa provinces and may last till early August.
