12th Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries held in Da Nang

PSNews - Together with other parts of the world, South East Asian countries in general and Vietnam in particular are striving to implement effective countermeasures and fight against corruption.

This is one of the contents discussed at the 12th Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries, co-hosted by the Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam (SPP) and the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI). The conference, taking place on November 27 - 29, themed "The latest trends of crime in the region and the countermeasures of criminal justice agencies."

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Tran Cong Phan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuracy of Vietnam affirmed that corruption is a serious issue that undermines democracy and rule of law of each country. Like other parts of the world, South East Asian countries in general and Vietnam in particular are striving to implement effective countermeasures and fight against corruption.

Especially, over the past decade, the UNAFEI and justice agencies of Japan have always backed Southeast Asian nations in the fight against corruption by organizing training courses, conferences, as well as international seminars. The SPP of Vietnam always highly appreciates and feels thankful to the UNAFEI and Japan for its effective support.

The 12th Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries holds important meaning as it creates a regional legal scientific forum for law enforcement officials and legal experts to evaluate and exchange information on the latest trend of corruption crime in their countries; thus identifying existing issues, along with practical experiences and countermeasures of justice agencies to effectively fight against corruption.

The Regional Seminar on Good Governance for Southeast Asian Countries, which began in 2007 on the basis of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, is an annual event organized by the UNAFEI in cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
