2 policemen injured in fight against HIV suspect

PSNews - 2 police officers of the Yen Binh District Police Station were violently attacked by a HIV suspect with a knife while doing their duty.

The Police Investigation Team of the Yen Binh District Police Station (Yen Bai Province) on October 3 prosecuted property case of robbery and the involved suspect named Le Hung Viet (aged 39, residing at Group 14B, Yen Binh Town, Yen Binh Province). Hung is a drug addict with 2 past criminal convictions for robbery. He has just ended his imprisonment sentence and is now suffering HIV/AIDS of the last stage.

Earlier, on September 30 morning, the unit received information that the Thinh Hao Commune Police caught in red suspect Le Hung Viet stealing property of Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, residing at Dao Kieu village. The Yen Binh District Police then sent Lieutenant Nguyen Tuan Anh and Lieutenant Ngo Tuan Ngoc down to the scene to handle the case.

At 1.30 pm, the same day, when the two police officers were escorting Viet to the investigation agency, the suspect suddenly used 2 knifes to attack them and tried to run away.

The two policemen quickly ran after Viet but they were violently fought back by the suspect. Despite being serious injured, the two policemen bravely overpowered the dangerous criminal.

Later, Lieutenant Nguyen Tuan Anh and Lieutenant Ngo Tuan Ngoc were taken to Yen Bai Provincial Center for Disease Control for examination and treatment against HIV exposure.

The courageous action of the two police officers was widely praised by local people. At this point, the investigation agency is continuing their investigation into the case.
