2,000 drug traffickers arrested in Southwestern border provinces

PSNews - The Investigation Police Department on Drug-related Crimes on August 16 in coordination with the Tay Ninh Provincial Police Department organized a regular conference on drug prevention and fight of the police forces of the Southwestern border provinces. Major General Pham Van Cac, Director of the Investigation Police Department on Drug-Related Crimes chaired the event.

In recent years, drug trafficking activities in the border areas between Vietnam and Cambodia and in the border provinces of the Southwest region have become more complicated as drug-related crimes have closely connected with other crimes.

In 2017 and in the first 6 months of 2018, the drug police force of the Southwestern border provinces have cracked down on over 933 cases and arrested over 2,000 suspects, seized over 30kg of drugs, nearly 100kg of dried marijuana and over 3,000 pills of synthetic drugs.

At the conference, Major General Pham Van Cac hailed the results of the task performances of drug police units in the Southwestern border provinces. He then asked the provincial police departments to enhance their leadership and heighten their sense of responsibilities for fighting against drug-related crimes.

The local police units should actively draw plans to closely monitor transportation routes, localities and classify subjects to effectively prevent and fight crimes while coordinating closely with local authorities and relevant units in promoting movement "All people protecting national security" and law dissemination and education among local communities, especially in localities with complex security and order situations.

He also urged the local police units of provinces to organize regular conference to exchange information and experience, and open training course for local police forces on skills and knowledge of drug-related crime prevention and fight.
